Um diese Vision noch weiterzuentwickeln, hat Baumit das Life Colour System ins Leben gerufen; Mit einer Auswahl an 888 verschiedenen Fassadenfarben sind die Möglichkeiten, etwas Einzigartiges zu schaffen, fast unbegrenzt. After 2014 and 2016 the story continues with the Baumit Life Challenge 2018. Once again the book is connected to Europe´s most beautifui Baumit facades and provides the highlights from the last two years.A facade is the face of a house and shows the style of the peopie who live in it. Baumit offers the chance to provide each building with its own unique character through the choice of material, texture, form and colour. In order to advance this Vision, Baumit has developed tho Life colour System. With 888 different facade colours, it offers almost complete freedom to create something truly special. The Life Challenge 2018 established new records, as we were pleased to have reeeived more than 320 submissions from 27 countries, which were competing for the title of Facade of the year. After two brilliant award ceremonies in 2014 in Vienna (Austria) and 2016 in Madrid (Spain), Baumit Life Challenge 2018 took place at the winner´s country Slovakia, in Bratislava atthe Philharmony, on 14th of June 2018.At this point, I also want to express my sincere thanks to all partieipants, Baumit partners, our Baumit teams and to the 13 noted architects who analysed and judged all the projeets.Now, I wish you much plcasurc and en- joyment browsing through Europe´s most beautifui facades and I am already looking forward to presenting the Life Book 2020. Firstly, the continuous base observesthe strict grid pattern "Eixample", and, secondly, the volumes of the dwellings continue the sequence of neighbouring freestanding blocks that respond to Diagonal.The building cornprises a base for public and social uses, and three volumes for domestic use. Each of the latter has seven or eight dwellings per landing with a central corridor that is lit from the ends, where it widens to house the Communications straft in the north and a communal balcony with views in the south. The roof of the building´s base, which houses the Community centre and the health facility, forms a communal ter- racc forthe residents of the three buildings, with bench seating at the height of the treetops so they can enjoy the views. Inside the dwellings, the 40 Square metres that represent living space are arranged in a sequence of Spaces organised around a central nucleus that houses the bathroom. A grand walnut tree, typical of vintners´ homes, gives this site its charming nostalgic character. Nowadays, these living environments are moving to the outskirts of cities - the formier countryside. The countryside is becoming a dispersed micro-urban System which offers quality, economic and sustainable living.The framework of the barn preserves its structural and expressive elements down to the last detail. It is situated with an adjusted orientation on a half semi-basement and its terraces and supporting walls softly interweave into the landscape of the south slope of the meadow. The new house is a skilful and completely hidden modern architec- tural implant of a ´pavilion in a hayrack´. The expression of landscape, which can be experienced through memb- ranes in all directions and through the framework of the vernacular heritage, awakens the consciousness of the inner spirit between the outer and inner, the safe and exposed. From the outside, the building respectfully meets all the essential legalities of the vernacular architecture of Slovenian countryside architecture. From the inside, the new house displays a modern living environment. Its diverse interior and exte- rior environments and programme Contents create an integrated living environment for the elderly. The concept also establishes a contextual relation with regard to the criteria and characteristics of the city of Izola. The public programme forms an architecturally significant image at the lower evel of the site, integrated into a partially excavated base of the upper level, and it also represents the entrance mo- tif when accessing the housing estate. By using different dirnensions for window openings and the Visual framing of facades, the facades of buildings appear more visually de- composed and they become more ´individualistic´. The combination of these materials (fair-faced concrete, glass, plastered wall) has shown to be a good choice. The excellent craftsmanship of the Baumit CreativTop-Fine plaster mix with a fine grain of 1 mm also contributes to this. Due to the long exposure to moisture and pronounced salinisation of the walls, only restoration plaster was considered for renovation.As part of the renovation, the fagade was restored to its original State. The entrance areas were created with a restoration plaster, rnesh filling and an end position made of lime plaster. Baumit´s ETICS System plays a fundamental role in combination with a rigorous study of its finishing´s colours and the opacity of the complementa- ry microperforated metal skin. The original building stood out as austere, grey, hard concrete. Located on a Strategie spot and visible for thousands of daily drivers from the M-30 road, the new llunion headquarters re- quired a comprehensive refurbishment ensuring its im- portance to be strongly reflected. The new facade pro- vides a modern and dynamic Solution by combining a first light insulating ETIC System by Baumit, which me- chanically adheres to the existing fagade, with an exter- nal microperforated metal sheet double skin. Techni- cally, both Systems coexist with great success by reducing uncontrolled solar gains while minimizing energy loss through the building fabric. Aesthetically, they create a vibrant effect by showing the coloured pi- xelated finishing of the ETIC System, which spreads progressively across the elevations, changing and emb- racing the building, only at night, thanks to rigorously studied external Illumination. Tower 30 has been tur- ned nowadays into a reference spot in Madrid´s circula- tory System.» 127
